Entry: Last torturing Assignment!! Thursday, May 19, 2005

Miles (2000:117) stated, ‘young people are apparently forced to construct their identities from the parade of image and products that surround them’. Has consumption become central to youth identities, and if so is it a positive or negative force in their lives?

my  final and last ENGLISH essay for my degree!! My last one, Sociology: 'Youth, Culture and Social change.' and it's a torture!! 3500 words, due 3/6/05 and i finding difficulty to even understand my readings!... '...young consumption is inherently multidimensional.' (Miles 2000:116)....what dimension? 3 dimension or 2 dimension...buy things also have to count what dimension you are buying it from...i buy then buy la!

A finding then was found...by a wondeful, beautiful, Gorgeous

and Genius philosoper Cheam (2005) regarding the dimension of consuming goods aka shopping which is, Comsuming goods obtain 4 dimensions,' See, Like, Take and Pay. This are the 4 dimension of shopping!!! hahah...iokie, i know i sound kinda stupid here but WHAT THE?? HOW AM I SUPPOSE TO WRITE THAT MUCH OF CRAPs!! My poor Fiance is so sweet to take time out to help me with it! Isnt he lovely? hahahh...

let me tell you what happen last week!! okieokie....my Sociology Presentation was last week, it only 1 chapter but i took 3 days to TRY understand it, at the end of the day, my understanding was totaly, 360 degree, oppsite of  what the text meant! Then Ash have take a whole night trying to help me understand my reading! i going crazy already...to make things worst every night i sleep, i dream of me going back to Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan for holiday!! The funny thing is, the dream always end up me wondering about my assignmeny then i wake up!! Ironic!!

People with great knowledge of sociology, and with all the kindness of your heart, please help me with this!!

actually ah angie, (btw, audrey coggins -used to be yen- here).... you could link that statement back to singapore, which i've had the pleasure of visiting recently for the firsrt time in many many years.

what i found quite interseting was that singapore basically runs on shopping... and it seems to dictate - and consume - the lives of the young there. everything centres around the activity of shopping... of buying... earning the money to buy and buy more. whether it is a positive or negative influence... would depend on the root of that evil, ha?

eg. when i get angry, i do major housework; when i get down about my weight, i eat; when i get depressed, i shop... so why do people shop?

gosh i miss studying. might do my PhD soon... or then again, might just become a mum... and perfect my bread and butter pudding... anyways. cya soon!
